Meet the Makers

Meet ceramicist Terry Larwood who will be in Holkham Gift Shop, demonstrating how he creates his magnificent pottery hares.

Terry’s clay sculptures of hares are inspired by his fascination of pottery and his passion for nature and wildlife. It’s also possible that inspiration has come from his Celtic ancestry, in the way that the Celtic tribes respected and revered hares in their rituals.

He uses a unique mix of clay with earth tones and each piece takes weeks to sculpt and although he is of the opinion that art can never be finished and always improved, he stops when the hare seems to take on a personality of its own.
